The Year of Productivity

I heard a word today and felt compelled to share it. I was told 2019 is the year of productivity and immediately began to think of the “New Year, New Me!” folks. I wondered how they were doing, how many of them were successful and honestly how many had given up already. Here comes the moment of truth, it has been over a month since the new year started and how many of us have set goals based on a realistic timeline? In the first quarter of the year, there is so much pressure to produce something…. really anything that suggests this isn’t just another year of setting a goal for the masses and then continuing what we’ve been doing. With productivity buzzing in my ear, I scrambled to catch the rest of the message. Not only in 2019 are we maximizing our productivity, but we are “planting seeds and pulling weeds”.

You might be wondering how to the two concepts are related but follow me for a moment. The definition of productivity means being able to generate, create, enhance, or bring forth goods and services. The takeaway, we do not have to be perfect or hit ALL of our goals to be productive, but we must do something to move forward. The idea of “doing something” requires us to take a small or even microstep towards our goals/desired change.

PLANTING SEEDS

What do you want to manifest this year?

What idea/project/vision have you been holding on to that is ready to be birthed?

What small steps are you taking to see that come into fruition?

Ask yourself how hard are you willing to work to see this idea come to pass?

PULLING WEEDS

I was struck by the notion that sometimes we need to give things and people up. I mean more specifically, throw some major concepts we have been holding on to as a way of living. For example, if you desire more peace that might mean ending toxic relationships or setting boundaries. If your heart is set on a new job, then you might have to let go of being content in your current situation or become more disciplined in your search for a new job.

All of that to say, the power of productivity lies within. As a habitual procrastinator, I received this word first and have had to apply it by making multiple decisions within myself to do better. I decided to do better once I reached the point of realizing I wanted to be better and was willing to commit to the change process. So, if we (because I am in this with you) want to hit any of our goals for this month it is going to require us to actively work them by planting small seeds of change and pulling up weeds of _______, insert in that blank whatever it is that holding you back. Just remember that any step forward is one step closer.
