Owning your mess
This post is dedicated to all the people who are ready to grow even if that means being challenged. Owning your own mess means you have come to a point in your life where you realize you are not PERFECT. You realize that those imperfections are what make you human, and from time to time get in the way of living your life to the fullest. Let’s break down owning our mess into 6 steps:
1. Acknowledging that we aren’t perfect.
2. Realizing that our imperfections are interfering with some aspect of our lives.
3. Deciding we want to be better and are committed to changing. This step is two part as it requires you to want to be better and then committing to the process of getting there.
4. Taking an introspective look at yourself. What areas of your life need work? Is it family related, social, physical, emotional, financial or romantic.
5. Once you’ve identified the area that needs improvement you have to ask yourself two things. How could your situation improve and what role did you play in getting in your current situation.
6. When you honestly answer the question what role you’ve played in your current situation then you have successfully OWNED YOUR MESS.
Being accountable for our actions isn’t something we put much emphasis into. We often know that we are wrong or have wronged another and justify it by any means. Let me reassure you that working on you is the best thing you will have ever done. When you take the time to work on your own issues you are able to rest assured that you are the best person you can be. Knowing your limitations then working to change them gives you the power.
